I left Samsung
I left Samsung about two weeks ago. I worked in Samsung Poland R&D Center in Warsaw for 9 months. I worked as junior software engineer and I was responsible for maintaining and fixing problems in Android application framework.
First of all I did this because this job was terrible boring for me (fixing code of other people is not especially exciting). Secondly Samsung as a corporation is a place of absurdity where doing unnecessary things for about 40% of time is a rule. There is stack of shit software which you have to use and biurocratic regulations you have to follow that it makes any normal person sick of it (for example you have to use IE to work because much of their sofware works only as ActiveX controls). Maybe I was in bad team but I do not think so. I suppose that all companies when exceed some size become something like this - as Paul Graham stated in his essay this is because of effect of scale. Besides I was dreaming for a long time about starting a business - and I think it is good time to try.
Funny thing is that when I was a student I dreamed of job in such respectful, big and innovative company as Samsung. I was thinking that in such company programmers only do super-innovative programming and all the time challange the world. But it is just not true. I have still so much to learn :)
Right after I left this job I go to my parents’ farm to help them collect black currant and cherries because now in Poland is harvesting time. Actually I prefer to do this rather than to stay in Samsung :) - this is much more challanging, free of absurdity and connected to the world job.
