I love surfing; love fighting through the waves to reach the calm water beyond the break. That’s when and where I think most clearly, so it’s no surprise that in late 2011 I was at a surf camp when I made the exciting decision to work for Adioso.

I’ve been in love with Thailand for years. It was a trip to Thailand that inspired the inception of Adioso, and I’ve always considered it my default go-to place for a quick and cheap getaway. It was our US-engineer Noah who persuaded me to give Bali a try. I’d always dismissed it due to the stereotypical hordes of drunken trashbags. But thanks to Noah’s insistence, I made a two-week trip there last October, for my first vacation in several years. I tried surfing for the first time, did yoga and meditation almost daily on the beach at Sanur, and ventured up to the hot springs at Banjar for a few days. I had an amazing time, and am now keen to get back there as soon as I can, to immerse myself in healthy living and solid productivity for a couple of months.

I’ve been travelling Europe for 5 months, half of me is Hungarian, yet I still haven’t even been there – let alone any other eastern European country. After playing it cool in western European counties, I think it’s time to move out of my comfort zone and get out there. The history is so rich, the culture is so interesting, the food is delicious, and best of all – it’s cheap as chips. I can’t wait to explore my family’s heritage and experience the culture that shaped my father when he was a kid.

It seems that amongst fellow creatives, a natural curiosity about Japanese culture develops. Mine has been growing steadily for a few years, and each month I get closer to booking flights. Attention to detail is at the core of Japanese design influence, from the folding of napkins to the ornates of a temple. From a distance, it appears to be deeply engrained in their culture. I look forward to seeing it in person, will 10 days be long enough?

It’s time to meet the Mama. And the Nonna. And the 45 cugini. I’ve been dating my Sicilian boyfriend for a while now and we’ve been dreaming of an Italian summer holiday together and a chance to reconnect with his family and friends around southern Italy. I’ve been to Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre and a handful of other obligatory places on the Italian backpacker trail; I’ve even worked on a boat in the docks of Livorno one freezing winter. But i’ve never had the chance to have a proper Italian summer holiday. I’m looking forward to riding around Sicily on a motorcycle, devouring cannoli and arancini, taking the evening passeggiata with locals and speaking broken Italian to Mama.

I had never been to Southeast Asia before, so I made plans to experience as much as possible in my relatively short window of time (which also meant packing in at least 5 meals a day). In just 11 days, I experienced the majestic beauty of Halong Bay, Vietnam, the thousands of mopeds of Hanoi, Vietnam, the erie luxury of downtown Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the incredible food markets of Saigon, Vietnam, and the stand-still traffic of Jakarta, Indonesia. And I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Despite the close proximity, I am yet to visit our neighbours in the South Pacific Ocean. I’ve explored Europe and the United States extensively, neglecting the destination at my own doorstep. From the calm blues skies and picturesque lakes, to the rugged beauty of the glaciers and mountainous terrain, New Zealand appeals to my inner adventurer. Another major drawcard – ludicrously fresh seafood and premium sauv blanc in abundance!

When any of my friends have a birthday, we all think of Las Vegas. We’ve also discovered that with enough people involved, someone is always having a birthday, so we’re going to select whichever is the the cheapest weekend in March and just have a party for all of them!

It had always been a dream of mine to escape away to a beautiful beach somewhere along the Caribbean, but I grew up thinking that’s where
everyone and their mom goes. Finally, in October of 2012 I gave in and decided to go meet up with several friends from back home (Omaha, NE) in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, for a house music festival and some much needed R&R. And even though the festival only lasted 3 days, I ended up staying just over a week. The constant ambient sound of the ocean proved to be a difficult thing to leave behind, and of course the all-inclusive bar at the resort didn’t help either. But my favorite moment? Going swimming just off the pier right before dawn. There is simply nothing quite like it. Now I understand… It only seems overdone because it
is actually that incredible.

I spent last November in San Francisco to catch up with our investors and team members there, but I also made my first trip to the PhoCusWright travel conference, which on this occasion was in Scottsdale, just outside of Phoenix Arizona. I’m not much of a corporate conference kinda guy, so rather than staying at the conference hotel, I found a place on Airbnb, and stayed with a really cool couple, who turned out to be experts in Acroyoga – that is a hybrid of yoga and acrobatics. Needless to say, they were pretty relaxed people, and great to hang out with at the end of each conference day.
